Northeastern Promises

I used to sell cocaine in order to buy weapons for CIA insurgents in South America and the Middle East, as well as fund my own personal wars at home. However, such patriot games are now behind me. These days I’d much rather sit behind a keyboard and read nonsensical posts from 20-somethings about social justice, gender identity or how they will be “forever alone.”

Good Hair?

I never could really wrap my head around the idea of “good hair.” The shit is dead tissue growing out of your fucking head. I remember a friend complaining about how white women and children insisted on touching his “nappy” head because it felt “so nice” and they insisted that they were in love with his hair. I thought he was just bitching for the sake of bitching. I remember being in a predominately black school system and this would always happen to me. There was always someone telling me they loved my hair and was touching it! At the time I didn’t give a shit because I was hitting puberty and a bunch of cute black girls running their fingers through my hair was nothing more than much seeked female attention. Fast forward to my twenties and I’m sitting at a BBQ and dealing with a swarm of African and West Indian children touching my hair and guess what…THAT SHIT WAS FUCKING ANNOYING!!! All I could think was, “If I didn’t grow up with your parents I would have no qualms with beating your little ass.”

Moral of the story: STOP TOUCHING STRANGER’S HEADS IF YOU DON’T HAVE FUCKING PERMISSION! It’s rude, inconsiderate and having anyone invade your personal space can be highly annoying and can escalate into a most violent and provocative situation.

Who Are You?

At Dan’s (Jude Law) insistence, Alice (Natalie Portman) admits to sleeping with another man. This seems to be one of the most accurate portrayals of my life at this point in time.

Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.

Ladies, let me give you some advice. You can throw all your stupid fucking chick-lit, self-help, why-doesn’t-he-love-me books out, because this is all you need to know: Men will treat you the way you let them. There is no such thing as “deserving” respect; you get what you demand from people.. if you demand respect, he will either respect you or he won’t associate with you. It really is that simple.

Universal Order of Armageddon - City

It hurts to let go. Sometimes it seems the harder you try to hold on to something or someone the more it wants to get away. You feel like some kind of criminal for having felt, for having wanted. For having wanted to be wanted. It confuses you, because you think that your feelings were wrong and it makes you feel so small because it’s so hard to keep it inside when you let it out and it doesn’t coma back. You’re left so alone that you can’t explain. Damn, there’s nothing like that, is there? I’ve been there and you have too. You’re nodding your head.
